They do the same thing with unix.  They say the base is in
/usr/openv/netbackup/version and that is what the gui displays.  Then
after any maintenance packs are applied they put a file in
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/version.  Doesn't make much sense to me why
they do this, why not update the same version file every time?

IMHO, Veritas has a long history of omitting or hiding pack/patch level
information from any sort of quality control.

Until customers demand they do better, they won't ... and it appears to
this customer (from a small shop, far from marketing and development
decision makers) that NetBackup customers demand very little beyond
"support" current hardware and server operating systems. :-(
