Yup...figured that...could call them 1/4" for that matter, right?
=20
as long as you have a drive type and a media type that match?
=20
what's the use of the barcodes tagged with the type? like I have "L2" =
postfix on all of my labels now (all LTO2 media)
=20
Something about the library determining the drive/media type?
Haven't looked into that much.
=20
I'm trying to convince the powers that be, that we should buy new media =
with a new barcode range before we turn these drives up.....otherwise =
we'll get all of our LTO2 media randomly inserted into the LTO3 drives, =
and then no longer usable in the LTO2 drives.....a nightmare at best.

No problem with that. That's the right way. =20
        =20
By the way, LTO3=3D=3DHCART3 is just a convenience. There's no =
coorelation between the "3"'s in those names. You could configure them =
as HCART (or DLT2) for all Netbackup cares. NB just matches the type in =
the VolDB with the type on the STU.
        =20

already have multiple stu's, for another reason....not a
problem =
there.
                =20
Thanks to Samuel, I think I got what i needed.....will
configure the =
drives and media as different formats ( LTO2 -> HCART2  and LTO3 -> =
HCART3) and create a new storage unit for the HCART3 format.
                =20
anyone see a prob with that?

Is anyone using multiple tape/tape drive
formats in one library with =
a single media server?
                                =20
                                for example:
                                =20
                                one server, one library
some LTO2 drives, some LTO3 drives.
                                =20
how do you manage it? can't (from what I can
tell) assign each type =
of drive to a different storage unit (without a second media server).
Do you have both types of tapes, and let NBU
assign jobs and tapes =
to drives as it pleases?
                                =20
I want to avoid my LTO2 tapes being loaded into
LTO3 drives and =
being written so that they can no longer be used in an LTO2 drive.
                                =20
Also, I'd like to send slower (100mb/s) clients
to LTO2 drives, and =
GigE clients to LTO3, etc.
                                =20
best way I can see to do that is to add another
library for the LTO3 =
drives, so that there's a separate storage units with just those drives, =
OR add a second media server, and configure zones to allow each media =
server to only see one type of drive.
                                =20
                                =20
