A-ha: new information.

It's not Oracle's GPFS, it's IBM's GPFS on which Oracle is certified. OCFS
is not certified on AIX.

It's IBM's answer to a clustered filesystem. Now I have a new direction to
search.

I'm not sure what GPFS is but we use Oracle's OCFS on our Linux.
Netbackup documentation specifically indicated the only supported method
for backups when using OCFS was using RMAN. I wonder if there isn't a
similar limitation for GPFS?

Also you may find a "project" site at Oracle for GPFS like the one they
have for OCFS. For the latter Oracle provided replacement utilities
(tar, cp, mv etc...) that would work (mostly) for OCFS. Without these
replacement default utilities would complain about things if the DB
(Oracle RAC) was up and running. (With it down some would work OK.)

Lots of warnings trying to back up a GPFS filesystem mounted on an AIX
v5.3
box. Lots & lots of these:

10/19/2005 17:02:13 uscobrmfa-ug-50 uscobrmfa-ad-95 from client
uscobrmfa-ad-95: WRN - Could not get ACL
                    information for
                    /oragpfs/INSTALL_FILES/10102_install/Disk1/stage/
                    Components/oracle.p2k.precomp_common/10.1.0.2.0/1
                    /DataFiles/mesg.11.1.jar. Errno = 22: A system
call received a parameter that is not valid.

A search for "GPFS" in the support pages doesn't yield anything. Google
wasn't much help either.

Anybody have any comments on this?
