Being paranoid if it were me I'd do this AND make sure I put the tapes on
write-protect so no one accidentally overwrote them with tar or cpio.
Remember the commands noted below only impact the way Netbackup sees it.
Any other utility would be quite willing to overwrite the contents if not
write-protected.

You might want to get clarification on the no-destroy. Infinite retention
in Netbackup as I recall actually only means 8 years.

Also even if the tape is "expired" the data IS actually still on the tape so
unless its multiplexed you could restore it with tar.

Freezing will prevent the data on the expired tape from being overwritten
but your catalog tracking for it is going to get whacked. You'd have to
import the tape to get it recreated. I'm with Kate on this, change the
expiration date. See the "bpexpdate" command for this.

I have backups on media that have a retention policy I will exceed sooner or
later. I asked
our support vendor a year ago about how can I assure that the data and
catalog stuff will not
go away on me. They said all I need to do is do a bpmedia - freeze -m
VOLNAME. Is this true?
Will the catalog data stay as well?

Thanks
