You can run bpbkar32.exe D:\ -nocont 1> nul 2>nul   and you will run a
backup of D:\ dumping the data to nul. This is a good test to check the
throughput of you disk or HBA. Obviously doesn't help test tape drive
speeds etc. Haven't tried this on UNIX, but I would think it should work
there also.
