You guys rock. Thanks for telling me about the -altreadhost parm on the
bpduplicate. It works great; saves a bunch of tapes (112 so far). Of
course there is no reason for me to have a separate media server for
this small amount of data, the project is supposed to have a lot of data
soon though.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Can Media Servers share Media?

I have several volume pools set up for different retention dates. I
have 4 media servers - Solaris, 2 WIN2003, and 1 Linux. I have scripts
that use bpduplicate to copy images to certain volume pools, to go
offsite. I just realized that the media servers don't share tapes. OK,
I'm a little slow.

It's not a problem except for the Linux media server, is behind a
firewall, and isn't backing up much data. Everyday a tape goes offsite
with very little data. I didn't calculate for that in my quote to the
Business Unit. They are going to be very upset.

My question is, can I configure multiple media servers to write to the
same tape, not concurrently of course? I'd really like to get some more
data on those tapes before sending them offsite.

Thanks for any suggestions.
