[Veritas-bu] Solaris 10 zones and Netbackup
2005-06-24 14:52:21
Well thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I am probably going to perform
the fssnap like Jeremy suggested, just because. I will say that zones are
fantastic, and even on an Ultra 10 run without a hitch or slowdown. Now if I
could install a smaller set of packages and still get zone functionality.....
Thanks everyone!
Matt

So it shouldn't be too difficult to create a policy that backs up the data in
the target zone via the visibility from the global zone.
If you wanted to *really* complete, you could have a pre-backup script do a
zonecfg -export on the zone into a file, and include that file in the backup,
or backup the /etc/zones/<zone>.xml file directly. Then you'd have something
you could use to recreate the zone if that were useful to you.
I don't see any big problems in backing up a 'whole-root' zone. I'm a little
worried about the potential for lofs links to be followed in a shared-root
zone.
That said, I haven't tried this with NetBackup yet.
Brendan Gregg has some notes about backups on his zones page:

He and I made some comments on a sun forum page:
