Kaspar,
=20
We worked out a way to go w2k from disimilar hardware, I have not tried
this with w2k3 but it should work. This is HP to Dell hardware.

How to Move from HP to Dell

=20

This assumes an HP3000/6000 or LP1000/2000 to a Dell PE2X50

=20

1. load the new PE2X50=20

            a. OS with sp2 or greater, workgroup

            b. NBU client

            c. set disk layout, i.e., C,E,F etc.

=20

2. export the following registry keys of the PE2X50 to a safe place
e:\hold or the like

            a. HKLM\Hardware\DeviceMap\scsi

            b. HKLM\Software\Installed Options\Dell

=20

3. create a boot disk for the PE2X50

=20

4. create an ERD disk WITHOUT the registry of the PE2X50

=20

5. create a perc controller driver floppy

=20

6. on the HP machine copy the following=20

            a. Dell installation CD to any location

            b. copy the perc driver files to c:\winnt\system32\drivers

=20

7. make a full cold backup of the HP system

=20

8. shutdown the HP system

=20

9. restore the HP backup to the PE2X50

=20

10. once restored import the two registry files from step 2

=20

11. restart the system with the OS CD in and boot from the CD using the
perc driver disk=20

      from step 5

=20

12. go in to repair mode, use the ERD floppy from step 4

=20

13. restart the system with the boot floppy from step 3.

=20

14. once the system is started

            a. copy the boot.ini floppy file to C:/

            b. delete the video and broadcom nic devices from hardware

=20

=20

15. restart, then verify that the correct device drivers and settings
are in place for the=20

      broadcom nics.=20

=20

16. clean up the system

            a. remove the netraid utility

            b. install DOMA

            c. delete unneeded files.

            d. install drivers for unknown pci devices, actually Remote
System Access drivers=20

found on the Dell CD copied in step 6a.

        Hi all,

        =20

I'm trying to work out a method of restoring a complete Windows
2003 system to different hardware using only NBU software. Until now I'm
unsuccesful in my attempts. Does anyone of you have any experience with
recovering an entire machine to (very)different hardware? Any suggestion
would be very welcome!

        =20

It is possible using a system state backup created with the
internal (backupexec) backup utility, by restoring this system state
onto a freshly installed system, containing all the correct drivers for
the different hardware, from within a safe mode session. The plug&play
mechanism will reinstall all devices. This method, however, requires
that I implement a local system state (Shadow Copy Components) backup to
harddisk which will be included in the filesystem backup of the entire
system bij NetBackup, effectively rendering the NetBackup Shadow Copy
Components backup selection useless...

        =20

        Hope anyone can help me!

        =20

        Kind regards,

        Kaspar Bosma
