OK. Thanks. So you have netbackup logging into SQL and backing the DB up
live? Or do you netbackup backup the flat file outside of SQL?

We did. For critical database that frequently change we set 3 kinds
backup : weekly full backup, daily differential, and hourly transaction
log backup. To perform these kinds of backup you just create a script
for each, from Netbackup for SQL GUI, then put the script file name in a
policy with MS-SQL-server type. To schedule hourly backup just set the
schedule frequency to be 1 hour and make sure the backup windows is
available whenever backup should run (we set 24 hours).

It is easy to avoid criticism: Say nothing, do nothing, and be nothing.
If you are going to move mountains, you are going to have to accept a
little flack.

Is anyone using the Windows SQL agent to perform backups of the
DB? We are installing a few SQL servers that will have high critical
apps and will need to run hourly snapshots of the data in the DB and I
need to know if the SQL agent can handle hourly backups of the DB. And
how this is performed. How are others doing this? Our backup server is
Solaris 9 running netbackup 5.0 at the moment (we are upgrading soon to
5.1 or 6.0).
        Any info would be helpful...
