One way you can tell if you have dead CPUs on a Sun box is to run the 
psrinfo command. On my SunFire v440 it would report this back:

0       on-line   since 04/15/2005 18:05:19
1       on-line   since 04/15/2005 18:05:19
2       on-line   since 04/15/2005 18:05:19
3       on-line   since 04/15/2005 18:05:18

You can then use the psradm command to adjust the CPU states as needed 
or physically replace one if it's deemed to be faulty.
