This is a poor mans response -=20
Retries do not happen for user backups - create backup resubmit classes.
Manual / auto backups have as many tries as capable, user backups are 1
time only create a manual resub class for each client or directory - +
submit backup_db2_with_snap =3D user policy user backups.

Close....the policy is active, but has only a "user" schedule....no
calender or frequency based schedules.
=20
The "retries" opetion will only retry failed "scheduled" jobs, and not
failed "user initiated" jobs.
=20
Since you will be starting the job from cron, on the client, it is user
initiated.

Ok If I am understanding you right, I create a policy on the Netbackup
master and add the server name and directory etc to be backed up. Have
this policy be deactivated. Then have the DB server run the bpbackup
pointing to the policy on the netbackup master? Is this right? Sorry for
the extra questions but we currently run the DB backups from the
master/media server and now you are suggestions to have the DB server
kick off the backup. just want to make sure I am clear on this point as
we have not done anything like this yet. Both the master/media server
and the DB server are Solaris based.
=20
But I am still not clear on how this is going to prevent the failed job
from running again on the media/master netbackup server?
