1. Make sure that the media ID doesn't already exist in your environment

1a if it does you can duplicate the data from the existing tape to
another and expire the data on the duplicate tape (that is why it is a
good idea to have a site identifier in the media ID, make sure that you
can't have duplicated plus you can set up barcode rules to make sure
that if a tape accidentally goes to the wrong site, it doesn't get
accidentally overwritten)
2. Make sure that you add the tape to a VP that you don't do backups to
(and just to be safe write protect the tape)
3. Phase I import to read the media headers on the tape
4. Phase II import to read the files information from the backups that
you want to import
5. restore....
