I knew this would happen, just as soon as I sent it I found the problem
(sigh).

The data files were being excluded by the exclude_list. Rman proxy
backup integrates differently with NetBackup, so the proxy copy bits are
more like a "normal" filesystem backup & hence the exclude_lists take
effect.

It seems a bit scary that it is really not obvious that files are being
excluded, rman thinks they have been backed up when they haven't.

Other issues I have are :
o Need to have automatic schedules configured with open windows,
because these are used to back up the proxy copy bits. This stuffs up
our active-with-no-window rerun schedules we use to prevent daytime
reruns affecting the overnight scheduling.
o Still can't restore. I tried to restore a data file but rman failed,
although NetBackup had restored a different data file and saved it to
disk with the name I requested (but the size of the file it actually
restoerd). Not sure if this is due to my lack of rman knowledge. Call
open with Veritas.
o Currently can't use a multi-LUN vxvm volume as cache area. Call open
with Veritas.

Anyone else having issues like these, or is it just me? :-(

NetBackup 5.1 MP2.
Master, Media & Clients Solaris 9.
Oracle 9.2.0.
Backup to Disk STU.

Is anybody successfully using NetBackup for Oracle to do proxy copy
backups using NetBackup Advanced Client?
I am trying to set this up and apart from some minor(ish) niggles about
the way the schedules need to be set up (some automatic and some user),
my major issue now is that the backup appears to complete successfully,
but the datafiles don't end up being written to the backup media
(currently disk), so I can't restore.

The expected number of backup jobs are created.
RMAN log looks correct.
bpimagelist reports the correct number of images (but some have no
files).
bplist reports only the control file and archived redo logs.
rman backup list and crosscheck indicate it thinks everything has been
backed up.

Any ideas? I have a case logged with Veritas...
