look at the "bparchive" command. It's integral to Netbackup and will do
just what you want. It'll delete the original files if, and only if, the
backup was successful.
Note, you can't schedule this via the NB scheduler. It has to be a
client-side task scheduled via an external scheduler like Unix's cron. I
use a bparchive-based script to backup & delete my oracle archived-redo
every two hours to keep the archive filesystem clean.

I'm also trying to put together a bpend_notify script. In my script,
I'm trying to delete files after the backup is successful.
After googling to no avail for any sample scripts, and looking at the
Veritas info, I'm unsure of the commands to use. Do I just use
dos-based commands, i.e. del <path>\*.*?
I use NBU 5.1 for Windows.
