I'm attemping to restore several Exchange storage groups to a dedicated
recovery server.
=20
The backup server and the exchange recovery server both have GigE, and
are on the same VLAN and switch.
The restore starts off screaming, averaging around 60,000KB/s and
peaking well into the 80's, then after about 100 gigs have been
restored, it slows to around 7,000KB/s.
=20
It makes no difference which storage group I'm restoring, or in what
order....
=20
For example, if I start 4 separate jobs for 4 storage groups, the first
100 megs of each SG is fast, then slows to 7MB/s
If I start one job with all 4 storage groups, the first 100G of the
first SG is fast, then the remainder of that SG, and all of the other 3
SGs are slow.
=20
I'm currently backing up the 4 SGs using multistreaming, one stream per
SG, and mulltiplexing 2 streams per tape.
(4 SGs, 4 streams, 2 tape drives) and getting sustained speeds over
20,000KB/s PER STREAM during the backup.
=20
This is getting frustrating, as I'm backing up 660 gigs of exchange data
in under three hours, but the last full restore ended up taking 26
hours!
=20
Any ideas?

Paul
