Hello all!
I have merged two master server into one yesterday... It was a time =
consuming job, but i discoveryed some new features in 5.1 i think. (or =
maybe they where ther before...)
For all of your that have deassgin, moved and assigned the media to the =
new master server i can now say that there is a command for this:
vmdb_merge
Really cool stuff, check it out..
This command work very well and VERY fast.=20
I had preperd for this operation for months, and edited serveral =
scripts, that i have got from pepole on this list, to fit our envirment.
Also take a look at tpautoconf.
With help from these two commands the merge now works much faster and =
better than i did expect.
However. There are alot to consider and prepair before doing this. It =
took my MANY hours to do this merge.
Also, let me point out, several of these hours i spent problem solving =
togehter with veritas support. You see, i have always used Windows =
Remote Administrator Console against our hpux master servers. I will =
never use that one again. It gave me errors from one media server that =
it "cannot connect to oprd on media xxx" and "cannot get global database =
host name from xxx" error all the time. It couldent find any librarys or =
drives. I thougth i really hade messed up our backup enviroment when i =
did this merge... BUT!!!
When i pionted out to the support tech that i was using win remote gui, =
he said: ohh, well alright, try the jnbSA instead.
I tryed the Java remote gui instead and that did it... All my problems =
where solved... And the merge had gone well.=20
Its possible but prepair for a bumby road, and dont forget to backup!!!! =
