Configuring a media server outside of a firewall using Vnetd-
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/251631.htm

(note: a couple of caveats to this tech note 251631, first you must open
bpcd and Vnetd bi-directionally. Also you must configure the master
server to use Vnetd or no connect back in the media server host
properties in the firewall tab otherwise restores will fail. Then take
the connect_option = in the bp.conf and add it to the vm.conf on both
servers)
This is documented in the 5.0 UNIX System admin guide vol 1 starting on
page 343.

Old 3.4 methods using client and server port ranges-
  http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/237797.htm

If you use NAT (Network address translation) you need to be at release
level 4.5 MP6/FP6 or higher. Proxy firewalls or ones using PAT (Port
address translation) are not supported.
Hope this helps,
Dan O

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Master - Firewall - Media

Hi all,

Does anyone have a definitive guide ( or link to ) to how to what ports
need
to be opened up in a firewall, and how the NetBackup master and media
servers need to be configured, when there is a firewall between the
master
and the media servers?

The NetBackup documentation seems to be less than clear on this issue; I
think I have configured the minimum ports it mentions, and I think set
up to
use vnetd, but it's still requiring more, e.g. vmd, tldcd, ...

thanks for any help, Phil
