I is the software. The question is which software, and can you work around it.
I do not know about the EMC Celerra, but with netbackup and netapps, there is
the same problem except if you are one level of netbackup they support
something veritas calls DAR. That is on backup the location of files in the
backup are saved in the netbackup catalog. So on restore the restore can locate
to the correct location on the tape and restore the file in mins. Except this
only works for up to 1024 files and does not include requests to restore
directories.
You might ask veritas if they support DAR for your level of netbackup, Celerra
and if there is special handling required?

First off, let me begin by saying that I really don't
know much of the details of my company's NetBackup
configuration. What I do know is that we have EMC
Celerra devices that are being backed up via NDMP.
However, restores take between 4-6 hours just for a
single file. Is there a TechNote or something
somewhere that explains why, or is there some patch
I'm not aware of? I'd like to bring it to the
attention of our backup team so they'll stop blaming
the software. My gut tells me it's a misconfiguration
somewhere.
Thanks in advance,
Brian
