 Yes it is - in fact, NetBackup is name resolution dependant.

 As stated in another answer, check your name resolution configuration
to be sure it's using the hosts file - filling the file may not be
sufficient, you still have to configure the resolver to use this
file - nsswitch.conf for Solaris.

 The NetBackup 'bpclntcmd' command is usefull to test name resolution
behaviour.
