Chris:

That behavior is expected if the Media DB does not exist since the MEDIA
DB maintains the STATE of the media.  So while media is assigned to the
media server that was rebuilt your media server had no record of the
MEDIA STATE and therefore expected to be able to reuse this media.

I know this doesn't solve your problem, but I hope it helps to explain
the weird-ness.

Has anybody seen this issue:

We have a Solaris8 Master Server running 4.5 FP5 and a Win2k Media
Server running 4.5 FP5. The media server had severe hardware issues and
needed to be rebuilt. It was rebuilt within the same day and it is
working fine, however every time we try to recover data that was written
to this media server before the rebuild we have errors and this was not
the case prior. Due to the location of executives this media server
performs recoveries every day. As I found out after the fact, the
mediaDB was not recovered after the rebuild. Besides this issue, there
are other issues regarding media from this media server before the
rebuild. For example, tapes that should not have expired are being
overwritten, read errors from media that had performed recoveries before
the rebuild.

Any help would be appreciated since I had rebuilt many media servers
before and had never seen this issue before.
