Let me clarify my statement. Is APTARE StorageConsole more or less then say
Bocada's product? I am just wondering if that Oracle license is adding a lot to
the cost.

Any idea what the cost is like though?

Bradley,

Just wanted to make sure all is crystal clear:

APTARE StorageConsole comes with an embedded copy of Oracle 9i.

You do not have to purchase or license Oracle separately. APTARE is one
of the few elite embedded software license (ESL) partners of Oracle.
The APTARE StorageConsole product encapsulates the underlying Oracle 9i
database.

The installation, management, and administration of the entire database
is provided through the APTARE StorageConsole browser interface. You do
not have to have any database expertise in-house to manage APTARE
StorageConsole or the underlying Oracle database.

Send an email to livedemo AT aptare DOT com if you would like a live
presentation over the internet of the product.

Best Regards,

Josh Collins

Does Storage Console still require Oracle 9i as a database (for
in-house)? I was looking at Tavata because it did not require Oracle.
Also, has anyone tried to use HP Openview to do the same thing?

It's still available as a separately-billed product. However, the
product has reached end of life and all the functionality is being
rolled up into CommandCentral. This new product does more than just
report on backups and costs a *LOT* more. Unless you really need the
extra functionality and are willing to buy into the CommandCentral
suite, you're better off staying away.

There are 2 serious competitors for the NetBackup reporting tools market
- Bocada with BackupReport and Aptare with StorageConsole. I've just
done an evaluation of both and Aptare's product easily won. You'll find
their prices competitive with what Advanced Reporter used to cost and
the product indispensable. Contact them for a demo and you'll quickly
be sold.=20
