With the Emulex cards (in both Windows and Solaris) you can tell it not to 
use PLOGI.  There is an article in the NetBackup support articles on this. 
 It's important!  The only issue we had was that when you use EMC, they 
have a special way to use elxcfg that hides the tick box you need to set 
for this (Windows).  So you must configure the HBA first:

elxcfg

set the flag to use ADISC not PLOGI  and there is another to 
change...don't have it to hand...

then go back and do the EMC special:

elxcfg --emc

Alternatively, you have to go and edit the registry,
