Sure can.

The one caveat is that when you run bpbackupdb independent of NBU's
internal scheduler, you run the risk of the DB being updated.  This may
happen DB pruning occurs or scheduled or manual initiated backups are
running.

What you may want to look at is using the catalog backup to tape that
you made and use dd to pull it off and write it to your DVD-R.  Or if
you have to re-stage it to disk first, then try that then write it to
your DVD-R.

Haven't tested any of this so, this is all theoretical.

Can someone tell me if this is possible-- and if so, where to start.

I'd like to automate a weekly catalog backup to disk for burning onto
DVD-R.  I can do this manually with the bpbackupdb command; however, I'd
like it to automatically run after a catalog backup to tape.

Can this be done?
