Josh

A00001 indicates you don't have a barcode, but the media will still have the
mediaid recorded onto it at first use, so it will stay the same.

BTW, aptare storage console - nice software.

Mark

Thanks Mark,

I just want to clarify the questions with an example.

Let's say there's a tape with ID A00001
This tape becomes full
The images on this tape expire
the tape is cycled back to the scratch pool (does it get assigned a new ID
here?)
the tape is cycled from the scratch pool to a volume pool (or does it get
assigned a new ID here?)

Or does it, by default, keep the same tape ID (A00001) for it's entire life
unless manually changed?

Any and all clarifications are greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

Josh

The ID of a tape, once assigned, remains through the recycling process
(unless it is manually relabled).

If there's no scratch pool, an expired, empty tape remains in the pool to
which it was last assigned.

I know that a NetBackup Adminisrator can manually recycle a Volume (Tape
Media) in the system choose to either specify a ID# or reuse the current ID#
when doing so.

But what is the default scenario for tape media recycling to the scratch
pool with regards to the ID? I mean, what does NetBackup do when it
automatically recycles a tape because all the images on that tape have
expired?

Does NetBackup assign a new ID # or does that piece of media retain it's
previously assigned ID?

And if there is no scratch pool set up in the system, what is the default
scenario for a piece of media?
