Don't you have to use ACSLS with a powderhorn?

Also, if it says Tape Alert is not supported, then it's for that
particular drive. We use IBM 3590 drives and it's not supported there
either.

You can suppress those messages by touch'ing
/usr/openv/volmgr/database/NO_TAPEALERT

Are you using ACSLS? If so you should let ACSLS handle cleaning.

Hello,
We are attempting to get tape alert working on our
9840A drives.  We have disabled robotic cleaning,
we have set the cleaning interval to 0, we have
cleaning tapes with cleaning avalable, but yet
we see error messages in /var/adm/messages
saying tape alert is not supported:
ltid[299]: [ID 294711 daemon.notice] Tape Alert not supported on P10D2
(device 2, /dev/rmt/2cbn)

Any Ideas?

STK 9840A drives in a powerhorn, Solaris 8 and NBU 4.5FP5.
