[Veritas-bu] device mapping problem?
2004-02-13 12:37:10
I don't think it's a drive mapping problem. I'm assuming that AA0448
AA0449 LI0407, etc...are tape IDs or bar code labels?
If that's so, then the problem is that the internal header on the tape
was written with a different bar code label than the one that's actually
on the tape. Have you relabeled tapes recently?
If I'm correct about this, you can fix it by overwriting the tape
header.
dd if=/etc/hosts of=/dev/rmt/0cbn (or whatever the device path is)
This will overwrite the tape header with the /etc/hosts file.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] device mapping problem?
Hey there All,
I'm a bit boggled by what I'm seeing when I look at the devices section
on my admin console. This is what I see:
Drive Name Type Control Recorded Media ID External
Media ID
---------------- ------- -----------
--------------------------- --------------------------
drv0 HCART ACS AA0449 AA0488
drv1 HCART ACS LI0407 AA0449
(there are 6 other drives but these are the two that seem to be crossed
somehow...)
Now when I look via ACSLS, it appears that the External Media IDs are
the correct ID's corresponding to the tapes actually in those
drives....also as far as I can tell the device mappings are correct. We
are running NB4.5_fp6
on AIX. I suppose that I could take another crack at remapping all the
devices again but I've done it three times already with the same
results. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
