Thanks for all the responses. I'll write all of these down in case this
happens again. I did run a kill -9 on the job pid and it still wouldn't die.
I also ran bp.kill_all and that still had no affect on the job. Rebooting
seemed the only answer.

You should normally be able to kill the jobs by 1) kill in activity monitor
2) shut down netbackup & run the goodies.bp.kill_all script 3) remove any
NetBackup remaining message queues (to a search for ipcs on the support
site).

I have had problems with avrd going down where I have had problems with the
tape robot. Seeming to indicate some kind of SCSI hang between Solaris and
the robot. Rebooting the robot and the server has sorted these.

I have a NetBackup 4.5 FP3 media server on Solaris 8. We ran into a problem
last week and had to kill a specific job/pid. This job could not be killed.
. We finally had to reboot the media server. It did come up clean, but it
took 3 attempts, starting netbackup, before the vmd would start. Has anyone
ever ran into a problem like this? thanks!
