Yikes...is your master also a media server? If so, then you'll want to
read about bpmedia.

NetBackup consists of two components, NetBackup and Media Manager, both
maintain their own sets of databases. Changing a pure NetBackup Master
it relatively benign, but when it is also a media server, you need to
remember that it requires a more complex approach.

Will the new server be "up and running" with NBU? If so, and the old
server was indeed a media server, then you can use the bpmedia, if not
then you can use bpimage. It's all pretty well documented in the 4.5
manuals.

Back in my consulting days when I would do this, I would make it a
regular practice to move all of my media to StandAlone before I would
move my Media Manager databases. Then I would do a library inventory
when I was done to let the application perform the update.

The how-to is definitely in the manual though...just not explicit.

Read everything you can on this topic, always BACKUP everything so you
have a contingency plan and travel at your own risk. If you feel the
slightest bit uncomfortable with this, definitely call in the experts.

It doesn't seem (from the doc) to be a big deal.

Back up your catalog to tape.

Use bprecover with the -dhost flag.

Change all your clients to the new master server name.

I've only got 20 clients or so; we're not talking about a 2 terrabyte
catalog here.

Am I just horribly, horribly wrong?

Officially it's not possible for a user to rename the master server.
Veritas will do it for you as a profesional service ($$).

There's been posters to this list that have posted methods previous
(search
the list history) but there's also been stories that the success of
some of
these methods are, at best, hit-and-miss.

Sorry. I've got a master server I need to rename, too.

Greetings, all.

I'm moving my master/media server (NB DataCenter 4.5) from one HP/9000
(HP-UX 11) to another with similar hardware.

The host names will be different, so I can't simply tar everything and
move it over.

I'm sure it's in the doc somewhere, if someone could just point me in
the right direction.

Thanks in advance!
