I am currently exploring different possibilities of backing up EMC Celerra.
 Here is what we have:

1)2 Celerra Data Movers, each with two "dedicated" LTO-2 drives. They
still connect to the drives via SAN

2)Master server is the controlling host for the robot where these
drives reside.

3)I need to vault the tapes for off-site storage in a timely manner.
EMC's solution was to snap off BCVs, mount them on the Data Mover and run two
NDMP backups off of them - one prod, one dup.

Now for my issue

NDMP currently does not understand that drives could be shared, not
dedicated. Since NDMP is inherently slow for backups, I would at least like to
speed up on the dups. I was thinking about making the master run the dups on
the same set of drives once NDMP backups are done.

Aside from scheduling issues for the drives (with all the
consequences), does anyone see a reason why this would be bad or could not be
done?

Thanks,

paulg
