If the robot is attached to a media server on the same master server, then
it should work OK.

Caveats:

1. You said you moved the optical images to tape images. If you used
bpduplicate to make new tape copies, you should either expire the optical
image copies or at least change the primary restore image to be the tape
images. (see bpexpdate for syntax)

2. If you've moved the DLT tapes to the SDLT library and you have new SDLT
tapes, you'll need two tape types. You can use "DLT" for your old DLT tapes
and "DLT2" for your new SDLT tapes. You need to have a storage unit of
defined for both types.

3. If you've switched what media server is handling the tapes, then you'll
have to move the media DB from one media server to another. Without my
manual, I'm going to say from memory that the command is "bpmedia -movedb".
If it's not that, then it's close to that.

4. Tapes that are being inserted into the robot need to be removed from the
other robot in the database. You've got to change the location of the old
tapes to an out-of-library location, then re-inject them into the new robot.
Easiest way is to remove all the DLT tapes, update the inventory, then
inject them into the new library and inventory your robots again.

Hi

Well we thought this would work.......

We used to have a VSM 3.2 system which included an optical juke box and
a DLT robot. Consolidating across from the former to the latter worked
no problem.

We recently purchase a spiffy new SUPERDLT robot. What I *hoped* I could

do was consolidate from a DLT7000 robot to the SUPERDLT robot. I was
able to migrate new files to the SUPERDLT......but not consolidate files

already migrated to the DLT7000. Consolidate just says it can't find the

volumes.

<Drat !>

My theory is that when files are intially migrated they are stored as
granules of a density tailed to the robot its using. When consolidating
from dlt to dlt it looks for volumes that use that granule size.

Does anybody have knowledge of this ?

If I'm right we'll have to migrate all out *new* stuff to the new robot.

All the old files will have to be cached back in and remigrated.

Terry
