Thanks for your assistance Bob. I have all 1,3-6 items set. I thought OBDC
only has to be configured for 4.5 and is not used in 4.5.3 so I do not have
this set. I have other SQL servers that this is set on and they are working
(in a different domain).

I've just started using the sql agent, but it is working for me. These are the
steps I followed to make it work.

1. The user id (sqlbackup) used for the sql backup is set as a local server
administrator(users and groups-administrator group).
2. Logged in to the server as sqlbackup and set up the dsn in the odbc control
panel.
3. Sql is set to use Windows authentication. sqlbackup id is set as a sql admin
within the sql enterprise manager.
4. Logged in as sqlbackup, run the sql agent and set sqlbackup as the default
login for the agent.
5. In services, all the netbackup services are set to run as the sqlbackup.
6. I log in as sqlbackup to set up the script file for the backup.

For the other questions, it looks like the agent is getting the list of sql
servers from other servers that have sql installed. I have servers show in the
list that don't have the agent installed.

I have heard for years, and it seems to be, that you have to set the speed and
uplex manually. Auto might work, but it depends on both the client and server,
and the switch you connect to, all using the auto setting the same. Manual is
more reliable.
Also, I don't rely on dns. Since starting with nbu 3.2 about 2 ½ years ago,
I've made sure the addresses on both ends are always in the hosts file. Dns
should work in theory, but doesn't always seem to.
Good Luck

Master: Netbackup 4.5.3, Solaris 8
STK L700 Library with 2 9840B drives
Client: Windows 2000, SQL 2000
Backup Network Name: <client>.grr.usfebr.com

I believe this issue has to do with resolution but I can not pin point it down.

Issue: When setting up the NetBackup SQL agent database login parameter I
receive the following error: Application connection failed for
MIGRRUFSQL04.GRR.USFEBR.COM\. Please select a different SQL Server host and
instance or modify your login parameters.

When I use the full client name or just migrrufsql04 I do not get the error.
My issues is I have to use the backup network which is denoted by
.grr.usfebr.com. I have verified that the DNS is correct, network cables are
correct and I can ping the backup NIC from the master. The Userid and password
has full access rights to the databases.

The odd things is I can create a BCH file, put it in a policy and back up the
databases from the master but I can not initial it from the client. I do have
the client (with the backup name) in a policy and I do have the altnames file
in place.

Any ideas?? It appears that the client can not resolve within itself.

Additional questions:

1. In the host name list in NetBackup SQL agent how does Netbackup obtain the
list of other SQL servers? Broadcast via Windows? Does it just look for
clients that have the NetBackup SQL agent on them or just SQL in general?
2. Also my backup NICs are gig what is the correct Speed and Duplex? For gig I
have read auto but in some of the troubleshooting documentation it suggest
100/full.

Your help is appreciated.
