The vmchange command has options to set values in the vol DB fields to
record when a tape is sent offsite, to be returned, and offsite slot number.
These write to fields in the volume database that normally go unused unless
you own vault. You can read them back out with vmquery.

The expiration date (I assume you mean when last tape image expires) is
available with the bpmedialist command.

Tapes sent offsite for us go through a "checkout" process, where these
offsite-related fields are populated. Returned tapes are sent through a
similar "checkin" process to null them all back out. I've got reports that
let me know what's offsite and when it's coming back that read these fields.

You've got Windows so scripting is more difficult but it wouldn't be too
hard to create your own reports for something like this if you've got PERL
or similar installed.

(from vmchange man page)
      -vltname vault_name
Specifies the name of the logical vault configured for the
                robot that ejected the volume.

      -vltsent mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss
Specifies the date the volume was sent offsite.

      -vltreturn mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss
Specifies the date the volume was requested for return from
the vault vendor. For catalog backup volumes, this is the
date that the volume will be requested for return from the
                vault vendor.

      -vltslot vault_slot
Specifies the vault vendor's slot number for the slot that
                this volume occupies.

      -vltsession vault_session_id
Specifies the id of the vault session that ejected this
                media.

Example bpmedialist output:
master> sudo bpmedialist -m 000100
Server Host = media1

id rl images allocated last updated density kbytes
restores
vimages expiration last read <------- STATUS

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Tape Management Command

Netbackup 4.5.3
Master: Windows 2000 SP3
Library: L40 with 4 SDLT drives

What command can I use to simulating the Vault program (without purchasing
Vault) to produce reports of what tapes are expiring when and the
location/slot that they should be stored in at our off site vendor? I am
manually added the slot number to the description of the tape. Is there a
command that will show description? Media List in the Admin Console has
great information but it does not show description. Anyone have an easier
way of doing this?

Your help/knowledge is appreciated.
