We are also demo'ing Aptare and I can answer some of these questions for you:
- Can't remember the cost off the top of my head
- It is licensed by # of master and media servers plus # of tape drives
- It installs on its own web server (solaris or red hat) and the master server
pushes info to it via port 80
- The web server uses Oracle 9i
- We are spec'ing out a Sun 280r w/ 2 processors + 4 gb ram for ours and we
have 700+ clients
Hope this helps,
Harry S.

Software
This looks really interesting. I have a ton of questions:
How much does it cost?
How is it licensed? Per Master server? Per client? Flat rate?
Does it install on the Master server or on another server?
Does it require a 3rd party database package be installed first?
Does it need a heavy-duty server to run all of this in real-time?
Thanks!

We been looking for a good reporting tool for NetBackup and have found one
and would like to share this with the group.
APTARE StorageConsole is a revolutionary new SRM tool for your existing VERITAS
NetBackup environment. It provides real-time global reporting, visualization,
and management across your NetBackup infrastructure.
One of the best features that is not available with any other tools is
assailing users to groups and restricting them to views of just the servers
that they are responsible for. Setup and creating custom reports is a snap. I
had this up and running in a matter of minutes and by the end of the day I have
created over 30 custom reports.
Here's a brief list of just some of the product's"silver bullet" features:
Real-time job and backup schedule monitoring
Real-time notification and visualization of your entire backup environment
Tape drive and tape library utilization and performance tracking and trending
Tape media and capacity planning and utilization reporting
Point-n-click end-user restore wizard
Success and failure metrics with reporting down to individual files or folders
within any backup
Service level tracking, trending, and notifications
Storage resource optimization and efficient utilization
Financial, quota, and charge-back reporting for the ultimate enterprise backup
utility
100% Web browser client providing ubiquitous user access.
You can see a sample of the product's features and report examples at
