You don't rite much about your current setup, so it's a little difficult to 
answer very specific.

First of all it can be done. No big deal.

But if your current network is 100 Mbit/s it could be that it would cost 
you less to implement a 1.000 Mbit/s network then making a dedicated backup 
network.
Depending on your network trunking some nic's to the switch could also add 
some performance.
