<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Hi David,
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;I'd first like to tell you that I don't find using HTML in
<DIV></DIV>&gt;this mailing list a good practice, and in general in the
<DIV></DIV>&gt;UNIX world, because it makes the text barely readable with
<DIV></DIV>&gt;all the codes and increases its size while reducing briefness.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;I also received you e-mails in my personal box, and first
<DIV></DIV>&gt;deleted them without being able to read them thinking they
<DIV></DIV>&gt;were blank.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;I believe (this is my opinion, though) that standard text is
<DIV></DIV>&gt;the quickest, most efficient way to write messages, because
<DIV></DIV>&gt;it doesn't need CPU and time consuming web browsers and will
<DIV></DIV>&gt;reach the full audience no matter what mailer they use,
<DIV></DIV>&gt;even on the legendary DEC PDP-11/70 at Bell Labs :-) ...
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; With Veritas, you need to update the volume database
<DIV></DIV>&gt;to reflect the changes after you change the tapes in your
<DIV></DIV>&gt;library. It's OK to physically make the changes in your robot
<DIV></DIV>&gt;but after you need to do the following to update the Veritas
<DIV></DIV>&gt;tape database:
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;1- Type 'bpadm' at the UNIX prompt.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;2- When at the main menu, press 'e' for Volume Management, 's'
<DIV></DIV>&gt; for Special Action, and 'v' for Inventory a robot.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;3- Type the number corresponding to your library, and press
<DIV></DIV>&gt; ENTER.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;4- You will see a list with slot numbers on the left, the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; next 2 columns showing what is physically in the robot,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; the 2 following columns showing what is in the Veritas
<DIV></DIV>&gt; inventory. And to the right, you will see a 'Yes' written
<DIV></DIV>&gt; to each slot where the inventory differs from the reality.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; So you should still see your 10 old tapes under 'Volume
<DIV></DIV>&gt; Configuration' but the new ones under 'Robot Contents'.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;5- Press any key, and when you see the Special Action menu,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; press 'r' to Update Volume Configuration.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;6- Again select the number corresponding to your robot, press
<DIV></DIV>&gt; ENTER.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;7- From the next menu, press 'u' to update the volume con-
<DIV></DIV>&gt; figuration. You will see all the changes that Veritas
<DIV></DIV>&gt; needs to do. Basically it will move your old tapes from
<DIV></DIV>&gt; the slots they were in to "Standalone residence" which
<DIV></DIV>&gt; means in storage outside the robot, and add new volume IDs
<DIV></DIV>&gt; in the database for your new tapes and state in which slot
<DIV></DIV>&gt; they are.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;8- Press any key, and confirm 'y' to update the volume
<DIV></DIV>&gt; configuration.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;9- Press 'q' to go back to Special Actions menu, and type
<DIV></DIV>&gt; 'v' again to make sure Veritas made all the changes
<DIV></DIV>&gt; and there are no more 'yes' in the mismatches column.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;10- If there are any mismatches, you need to update the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; volume configuration again with 'r'. Otherwise you
<DIV></DIV>&gt; may quit Veritas to the UNIX prompt.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Finally, the 'available_media' command will still show your
<DIV></DIV>&gt;10 old tapes, but not in the robotic device, and will
<DIV></DIV>&gt;show your 10 new tapes as available in their appropriate
<DIV></DIV>&gt;slot in the robot. They should be available for the same
<DIV></DIV>&gt;volume pool and Veritas will use them for the next backups.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Let us know if it works for you.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Good luck.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Louis-Luc
