If you want to work with volumes or devices, you also need to put a KNOWN =
servername.example.com in your /usr/openv/volmgr/vm.conf.
Oh, and you have to do that on each media server.
Oh, and you need to edit the /etc/hosts on each media server.
Oh, and if you VPN in, you need to change it on each media server every
time.
In my case, 1 master + 3 media servers = 12 files to change to set up, and 4
files to change each time I want to work with NetBackup (if I want to manage
devices).
Gotta love it.
My understanding is that it's next-to-impossible to have a Windows client
control Unix-based servers using any other method because Unix-based servers
can't auth off a domain controller. I haven't dug into this issue recently
though.

ay Services and Processes in Activity Monitor
I run it Console from my laptop all the time. Master is Solaris 8 NBU 4.5
MP4..
There are to things that must be done.
1) on the master server edit the bp.conf and your workstation/laptop name
must be in there as a SERVER = name
2) in your /etc/hosts file on the master it must have a entry for the ip and
workstation name.
EXAMPLE: IP_ADRESS trosamond-l.domain_central.local trosamond-l
The pain for me is the fact when I VPN into the system I have to change the
IP address DHCP.
You will have to stop and restart netbackup so that it works correctly.
If this does not work check the master server properties and Authorization
and ensure that it is correct and that NBU knows about the user/workstation.

You won't with the console managing a Unix host, at least that's been my
experience.

Running NBU 4.5 on Solaris but on the NetBackup Admin Console run from my
laptop I don't get anything listed when I access the Activity Monitor then
the Services or Processes tab. We did figure out how to get the Drives tab
working (added server to /etc/hosts on laptop). Any suggestions?
