Dennis,
=20
I've changed the hostname of the NetBackup master a couple times:
=20
1) Save the NetBackup catalogs, noting which tape is used.
2) Rename the master server.
3) Restore the catalogs with:
    bprecover -r -tpath /dev/rmt/0cbn -dhost [new_hostname]
4) Check that all media servers refer to the new master name as
the volume database host. I believe /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig
can be used to configure this.
=20
This is not a supported migration scenario, but it works.
=20
Good luck.

Thanks William and David!
You're right, Veritas Tech support told me that it is reallllyyyyyyyy
very hard to change the hostname. He advised that I get a Veritas guy
here and do the work ( which I think I will not do because it will cost
money). I'll just stick to my current hostname and just make an alias
for what I want it to be.

Regards,
Dennis

Hoo boy, don't do this if you can at all avoid it.

The last time I checked with Veritas on this it wasn't=20

supported...

   =20

Agreeed. And almost immediately, don't be too afraid to do it. I have
switched my Master Server off of a Media Server to a new system, and
then swapped out the other Media Server for a new one. I plan to do it
again, too! :7)

My set-up was pretty simple -- two Solaris 2.6 Media Servers (one
which was also the Master Server), each with an L9 tape library attached
-- so if your situation has greater complexity, it may make this
impossible.

 =20

...(or wasn't supported unless you paid for a=20

Veritas contractor to do it).

   =20

I called the Veritas support line and patiently let the guy tell me
how the sky was going to fall if I tried this -- and then he emailed me
a list of the steps to take. Give them a call and they'll probably tell
you. (I know it's cowardly, but *I* am not going to be the person who
gives you the rope to hang yourself.)

 =20

>From what I understand NBU integrates the hostname into itself is=20

such a way that it's very difficult to know where it is and what=20

kind of fall out can result from this change.

   =20

That's true enough. Roughly speaking, you pretend to have a server
failure and then "recover" onto the new server.
