Tapes stuck in an dlt tape drive, happens all the time.

Tell us a little more about what you can see.
Is the tape drive in a robot, if so what is the make and model?
Which model dlt drive drive do you have? Microcode level?
On the front panel of the tape drive which leds are on? If all the leds in a
column are flashing that may mean something is very bad with the drive at the
hardware level.

In the nbu devadm interface is the robot and drive online and up.
If the drive is down can you nbu reset and up it? Does the reset unload the
tape. If not what messages does this action generate in the event logs and nbu
logs?
If the nbu reset does not work, did you try to push the unload button on the
drive. Did this do anything. Did you get a loud whiring//clipping sound from
the drive. If so the leader my be off or broken.
Do you have hardware maintenance, if the drive appears to be broken you should
call for service.
If you do not have hardware maintenance and you think that there is a chance
that the drive is not broken, you can power cycle the drive. Note that
sometimes this can cause problems with the leader if you do not already have a
problem. Sometimes it cleans things up, and sometimes you end up in the same
state as before the power-on-reset.

Good luck len

Subject: [Veritas-bu] bplabel problem

Hi all,

I just encountered the following problem.
I try to perform a bplabel command, but it never ends and I am forced to
Cancel the request.
I tried to do this a couple of days ago and it executed successfully.
Of course, meanwhile, we had a tape stuck in one of the DLTs, and did a
couple of reboots
on the machine, but that's all.
Has anyone encountered this problem?
This is a serious issue, as the tape stuck was the main NBU DB tape ( talk
about luck!!!)
and I need to have another tape relabeled because I do not have a blank tape
to use instead!!!

Any help (especially really fast ones) are HIGHLY appreciated!!!!

thanks
Kat

p.s. FYI , I have NB 3.41 on Win2k machine....
