I posted this Tuesday with no response.
Is anyone using VERITAS Block Level Incremental Backups (BLIBs)? If so, I
would appreciate hearing from you. More details below.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] BLIB failures
Does anyone out there have experience with the Database Edition for Oracle
and Block Level Incremental Backups?
BTW, I'm running NetBackup 34_3 and dbed 3.0.
When a "standard" backup stream encounters a tape write failure, it has the
ability to retry (and usually succeed).
When a BLIB backup stream encounters a tape write failure it renders the
entire backup a failure even though the other n streams are all completing
successfully. The only recourse is to clean up the mess and restart the
entire backup. This is very frustrating when you're several hours into a
large database backup.
I'd be interested in hearing from folks that are using BLIBs and what
results they're getting. Is there a later version of NetBackup/dbed that is
tolerant of tape write errors?
I'd also like to know what is a "normal" number of tape write failures on an
L700. Is this a frequent occurrence?
