Given this description, I think that "bplist" is your tool, then. Include
the "-R" flag and look at path "/" and limit to the class/client/etc. that
you need and I think you have your tool.

Listing by client/class/policy might work also. I really didn't think about
that. What we are trying to do is eliminate duplication. The amount of data
being backed up on a nightly basis has really started to take off lately. In
order to speed up our disaster recovery process we created a second set of
backups that only back up the essentials to recover our databases and app
files. I now need to exclude these files from the regular nightly backups.
However based on the amount of data being backed up still, I don't think my
exclude list is working so I need to verify what is specifically being
backed up. This way I can eliminate duplication and if there is none find
what is actually being backed up and do we really need to back it up. My
whole backup window is growing and growing to accomodate these 2 backups.

Crud.

Just when I thought I found them all, there's another undocumented command.
No "man" page, no entry in the SAG.

Looks like bpflist would work fine for skipping over the last step of
manually parsing the DB files although there's still some filtering
involved.

Still - same caveat as before - it looks like there's no filter of those
fragments of the backupid that are located on other tapes.

What's your ultimate goal? Why try to find files on a specific tape number?
Wouldn't files backed up by client/class/policy usually be better
information?
