Make DARN sure that there's nothing other than Netbackup touching the tape
drives. Win2k comes with a "removable storage manager" service that you MUST
disable. If you don't, it'll put its fingers all over the tape drives and
completely mess up any Netbackup operations, maybe even corrupting the data
on the tape.

The next thing is to make sure that each server has the same notion of what
your tape drive names are. If the Netbackup name "lib1tape4" is the 4th
drive in library 1, make sure that's the case on each server. Go into the
registry and locate the SCSI bus, target, and LUN for each \\tapen windows
device and make sure it's pointing at the drive you think it is. Windows
like to change device names around when it reboots, so it might be a good
idea to have the Netbackup services NOT start automatically on a reboot, and
start them manually after you have a chance to verify the naming. If the
Netbackup names don't match the physical drives across all your servers,
things will, again, get scrambled and maybe corrupt data on the tapes.

When things go wrong.....don't go with them.
