I can tell you with the highest degree of confidence that it is NOT the
linux kernel, it is NOT the hardware you are running.

Marcelo, YOU my friend are correct, we need to ask VERITAS to support this
on RedHat Linux, period.

Oh and they do listen, but remember this is a very BIG software company with
a very complex tool before them with a long list of wants for the next MP,
FP and GA release...So its more a matter of how many voices they hear.
Squeakiest wheel gets the grease.

Q3 is coming, but not soon enough for me...*squeak*...it'd be nice to have
it out before VISION

just to clarify things , or to say in another way my $0.02.

RedHat 8 and 7.3 (can't remmeber if 7.2 and older too) has support for
2GB+ files. Now the question is, against what glibc the netbackup
application was compiled. its not a kernel issue , nor a glibc issue
(not at least on 7.3 and 8.0)
in fact, it means netbackup agents for linux are linked against an old
glibc or is not using *64 derivated function for readdir, create, etc
,etc. Oracle 8i has the same problem, it was linked against old libs, or
compiled against old headers , well some like that :)

here is an example of creating a 2.1Gb file on linux 7.3 and how
netbackup fails to manage it, but standart linux tools works.

so if you want support for files over 2Gb on linux, we should ask
veritas to recompile its agent into a more recent linux distro.(yeah as
if they will listen to us on that... :) )

(sorry for the long e-mail but see lots of mis-information on 2gb+
support on linux on this list , i'm not an expert, nor a professional
linux administrator, but i had been working with linux for mora than 5
years)

examle session Session:

[root@linux73 mailspool01]# dd if=/dev/zero of=blah bs=1024k count=2100
2100+0 records in
2100+0 records out
[root@linux73 mailspool01]# du -h blah
2.1G blah
[root@linux73 mailspool01]# file blah
blah: data
[root@linux73 mailspool01]#

using netbackup tar:
[root@linux73 mailspool01]# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/tar cf a.tar blah
can't add file blah: Value too large for defined data type

using standar linux 7.3 tar:
[root@linux73 mailspool01]# tar cf a.tar blah
[root@linux73 mailspool01]# du -h a.tar
2.1G a.tar
[root@linux73 mailspool01]#
