FWIW, I can confirm that vnc tunneled through ssh works fine. I have
bandwidth-limited cable modem access from home so tunneling X via ssh works
fine but is slow. If I tunnel a vnc session, it works much much better.
VNC is slim compared to X (we don't have compressed-X support).
In fact, for one secure access, I first access a system on the otherside of
my corporate firewall, then use that as a jump-point to access a system on
the other side of another firewall. I tunnel from the end system back to
the mid system, then retunnel that back to my home machine. Complex but it
works fine.

Jon,
I thought you connect from your LAN, but actually from your house.
Because I have no problem connecting though ssh from my LAN
I don't have experience if from house.
How if you use vnc through SSH, it will probably better.
About this one

That I need to put in .profile if I use Xmanager 1.3.9 with NBU 3.4 solaris.
So far working if I put it.
