I've found that sometimes if you expire the images with bpexpdate, it
doesn't change the "assigned" date but it will delete the images. ( A query
with "bpimmedia -mediaid <tapenum>" will return nothing. )
If you wait, eventually NB will get around to changing the assigned date to
a null value & the tape is reusable. If you want to hurry the process, you
can run "bpexpdate -deassignempty -force" and it'll do it right then.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Expire Infinity Tapes?
I ran some backups a long time ago that we weren't sure when we would need
so we set the retention to Infinity. Now that we do not have the need for
this media anymore I would like to expire them so I can re-use the tapes. I
have attempted multiple different ways to expire the media on the tape and
read the manual a few times, but for some reason I cannot change the
expiration from infinity to any date. I have used the CLI, motif gui and
java gui.
Info on sys: Solaris 8, Netbackup 3.4.1, SSO with 9 media servers.
Bpexpdate looks like it worked, but it doesn't show when looking back at the
tape.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
