An upgrade from 3.1.1 directly to 3.4 IS supported. see p.21 of the
NBU 3.4 install guide
(http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/232352.htm) or technote 232654.
(http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/232654.htm) (and I've done it
myself a time or two...)
BUT, Hamid said he is upgrading from 3.1 as opposed to 3.1.1. On the
one hand, I *think* that the difference between 3.1 and 3.1.1 was
just a fix for Y2K compatibility, so maybe upgrading from 3.1 --> 3.4
might work fine too. But that upgrade path is definitely NOT
officially supported without unless the first step is an upgrade to
3.1.1 or 3.2. (and I could be wrong about the small difference
between 3.1 and 3.1.1 - we're talking about 5 years ago and I'm
getting old...)
When it comes to the NBU client binaries, the 3.1.1 --> 3.4 upgrade
is not only supported, it's trivial! This is really no different
from the last step of the NBU patching process - the "update_clients"
script gets run on the master server, and it does a practically-blind
overwrite of the client binaries.
And I certainly concur that any extensions (components) need to be
kept in sync with the rest of the NBU install - there's no way you
should expect the 3.1.x NBU Oracle extension to function properly if
it's running on an NBU 3.4 client.
