we're running 4.5 MP2 business server here, and tried
datacenter for a short time.
we use networking via vnetd, the DES-encryption
module with standalone bpcd on the clients
but no database-agents.

all machines run SuSE Linux 8.0 (i.e. the master & media
servers are running on a unpported platform).
the drive is an 8 slot dat-autoloader from sony.

we had some problems with the screen layout of the java-gui,
but those disappeared after update to MP2, so it's probably
a good idea to make that update if you haven't done so already.

the biggest problem is that the linux-version
does not support largefiles (i.e. >2GB) but that
will be part of netbackup 5.0, coming in Q3/4 2003.

we had a problem backing up the catalog-database when
bpcd is in standalone mode, so the master server is back
to inetd-bpcd.

we will get a rather large MySQL database soon, so at the moment
i am looking for a good way to do efficient backups of large
mysql tables as there is no veritas-agent for it (and no
useful interface in mysql (but afaik, it is planned)).

apart from that, everything works just fine at the moment,
no bigger problems because of the unsupported distribution.
afaik, veritas is thinking of adding united linux to the
list of supported OSes for the server which would be
very nice.


thats all i can think of at the moment.
if you have further questions, just ask. i would be interested
in exchanging experiences with other people running netbackup
on linux or using the crypto-module.
