I have figured what has happened with regards to the wrong barcodes being
reported.

Before upgrading our firmware, the Sun Storedge L20 was designed for DLT
tapes only, it now appears that the upgrade allows you to mix DLT & LTO
tapes/drives. The L20 library will identify if the tape is DLT or LTO and
add either a D or L to the end of the barcode.

Does anyone know if you can assign a different tape to a volume (media) ID?

Cheers,

Tim.

Try putting this in your vm.conf file on the master and media server:

MEDIA_ID_BARCODE_CHARS Rob# Bar# 1:2:3:4:5:6:7

where "Rob#" is the robot number and "Bar#" is the total number of
alpha-numeric characters (probably 8) printed on the bar code label.

It typically will still display all 7 or 8 characters in a number of
reports. Use the Report program in verbose mode (checking for frozen media)
to determine the success.

Hello,

Sun have just repaired our Sun Storedge L20 drive. In Netbackup 3.4, when we
perform an inventory it comes up with:

$ vmupdate -rn 0 -rt tld -empty_ie -use_barcode_rules

Generating list of recommended changes ...

Proposed Change(s) to Update the Volume Configuration

=====================================================

Logically add new media 00008D (barcode 000008D) to robot slot 13.

Logically add new media 00124D (barcode 000124D) to robot slot 14.

Updating volume configuration ...

Processing new media added to the robotic library by logically

adding media with new media IDs as follows...

        Media ID        Slot

        ========        ====

         00008D          13

         00124D          14

Volume configuration successfully updated.

As you can see, it thinks the barcode is 000008D and trims the first number
from the front of the barcode. Before the repair it came up with 000008.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Cheers,

Tim.
