Subject: [Veritas-bu] netbackup and tru64 clusters

Hello

We were using a Netbackup 3.4.2 client to backup a Tru64 machine.
The enduser group then upgraded the client to a cluster. And it appeared to
work the same, until we were doing a restore.
During the restore the Tru64 restarted, but neither the netbackup client nor
the netbackup server reported a problem. I would have suspected a socket
error reported for the client with the netbackup server. The netbackup
client kept it's session open with the netbackup server. The only problem is
that the restore stopped restoring files. The restore log just keep
recording file not restore
for the rest of the files scheduled to be restored.

I looked around and could not find any info on netbackup and Tru64 clusters.

Is this just a bug with the current Netbackup clients or is there something
that we should have setup on the Tru64 server?

Thanks len boyle

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Assign a new media for Catalog Backup

Hello,

we encountered a problem of assigning a new media (from scratch-pool)
   for catalog backup.
We are currently using two tapes for this purpose. We tried to
assign the new pair of tapes. The tapes we took were once in use
by netbackup for regular client backups. Now they are expired
and we assigned them to NetBackup pool.

But, after trying to backup the catalog on the newly assigned tape
the backup fails each time with the following errors in the bptm log
   file:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
11:31:15 [11574] <2> io_read_media_header: block read is not a NetBackup
media header, len = 1024, media id CC0521, drive index 2, data is
NetBackup database backup

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do any of you guys have an idea what should be done?

This doesn't appear to be the cause of your falure. <2> is a warning not a
fatal error. Do you see any <16> errors in the log? Those are the
fatal/serious errors.

Probably not the case, but try manually assigning the tapes to the Netbackup

volume pool. NBU *should* grab them from scratch as it does with regular
backups, but this wouldn't be the first inconsistency I've seen with this
product.

Hello Rita

Netbackup will not overwrite a tape that it knows had been used to hold data
from an catalog backup. Before it uses the tape, it reads the internal label
written on the front of the tape to determine if it is a tape that is ok to
write on.

You can use the bplabel command to overwrite the internal label on the tape
so that netbackup will not be able to tell that the tape had netbackup
catalog data saved on it.
