Hello,

I'm using NetBackup 3.4 GA with a Solaris Master Server. There's no DNS =
so it should always look in the hosts file.
# /etc/nsswitch.files:

hosts: files

# The "Network Configuration" File.

udp6 tpi_clts v inet6 udp /dev/udp6 -

tcp6 tpi_cots_ord v inet6 tcp /dev/tcp6 -

udp tpi_clts v inet udp /dev/udp -

tcp tpi_cots_ord v inet tcp /dev/tcp -

rawip tpi_raw - inet - /dev/rawip -

My PROBLEM is that The Master Server doesn't recognize W2K clients. If I =
try to launch the GUI on a W2K client, I get the following message on my =
Master:

21/08/02 16:59:21 zeus  Error gethostbyaddr() for 10.128.2.101 failed,  =
(1)
21/08/02 16:59:21 zeus Critical cannot determine connection host name

And The following message appears on the GUI on the client: Socket read =
failed

This happens only with W2K clients as it works fine with other unixes =
and NT.

Here are some tests from the master:

[zeus]:/>ping -a langeais                      This a W2K client
langeais (10.128.2.101) is alive

[zeus]:/>bpclntcmd -ip 10.128.2.101
host 10.128.2.101: not found.
[zeus]:/>bpclntcmd -hn langeais
host langeais: langeais at 10.128.2.101 (0xa800265)
checkhname: aliases:
[zeus]:/>grep langeais /etc/hosts
10.128.2.101 langeais

Just for fun with a NT4 client:

[zeus]:/>bpclntcmd -ip 10.128.2.209
checkhaddr: host   : web_balo: web_balo at 10.128.2.209 (0xa8002d1)
checkhaddr: aliases:

Here are some tests from the client:

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin>bpclntcmd -pn

expecting response from server zeus

EXIT STATUS 23

And again, same error that with the GUI on the master:

22/08/02 12:19:07 zeus  Error gethostbyaddr() for 10.128.2.101 failed,  =
(1)
22/08/02 12:19:07 zeus Critical cannot determine connection host name

But

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin>bpclntcmd -ip 10.128.3.1

checkhaddr: host : ZEUS: ZEUS at 10.128.3.1 (0x103800a)

checkhaddr: aliases:

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin>ping -a zeus

Envoi d'une requ=EAte 'ping' sur ZEUS [10.128.3.1] avec 32 octets de =
donn=E9es :

R=E9ponse de 10.128.3.1 : octets=3D32 temps=3D70 ms TTL=3D254

R=E9ponse de 10.128.3.1 : octets=3D32 temps<10 ms TTL=3D254

I really don't understand what this has to do with W2K but it really =
happens on every W2K client and nothing else.

Thanks

    Jerome Bauwens
