Any experts on Oracle 7.3.4 / Enterprise Backup Utiltity (EBU) out there?

Having patched our NetBackup 3.4 database extensions to NB_34_3, EBU appears
not to be picking up the new version, judging from this in the log file :

Tape API: Release 2.0
Tape Management Software: Release 3.2.0.0               # Which I am
guessing means NB 3.2 version of libobk.so

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/233482.htm says "With Oracle 7.3.4,
linking is accomplished by including the NetBackup API on the library search
path."  It is not clear whether this is just when running the backup, or
when starting the database, or at some other time.  I have ensured
LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set when running ebu, and the databases have been
restarted since the patching, with no change.

any ideas?
